The Wag Shack

The Wag Shack is a shelter intervention program. We pull dogs from kill shelters that would otherwise not make it out. They might be heartworm positive, have demodectic mange, broken limbs, or pregnant.  Every dog that we take in has age appropriate vaccines and has been temperament tested by the respective shelters. We have a policy that we do not take in strays for several reasons. First, taking in a dog with unknown health can be risky. Second, a strays temperament might not be known or we might not receive accurate information. We typically stay full and usually do not have any open spots to add dogs that we have not committed to. We are always looking for volunteers to take a shift at the Shack.  Morning shifts include feeding the dogs, refreshing water buckets, sweeping/mopping the kennels, and refreshing linens. PM shifts include scooping yards, refreshing water buckets, and feeding if needed.  Both shifts should offer lots of love! We also have a dog park for those that might like to come by and take a dog or two down for a play time! Volunteers should be 18 or accompanied by an adult. All volunteers must attend a training session and sign a waiver.

  • Rosie was very underweight and in rough shape when she came to us.  She had been surrendered to be euthanized. She is doing so much better now! Rosie is dog friendly, kid friendly, housetrained, crate trained and very smart. Such a great pup! She does get skittish around vacuum cleaners. Rosie loves car rides and long walks. Rosie is undergoing treatment for heartworm (not contagious). This sweet girl deserves the rest of her life to be so much better than how it started. Let’s make that happen!

Ava

  • If any dog deserved a wonderful home, it's this girl!  She was on a long list of dogs who had been at a local shelter for way too long and needed out. Ava is a special needs girl that has an angular limb deformity. It appears to have developed from a broken bone that was not attended to.  She will have surgery on 3/9/2023, and hopefully she'll benefit greatly from that.  Ava weighs 36 lbs and is dog and child friendly.  She appears to be a mix of boxer, pit and maybe something else.   We do know she's a mix of sweetheart and loving.

  • This beauty is named Juniper. She was pregnant and living on the streets in Columbia. After much effort, Juniper was rescued by our co-founder and some family members. She had 8 pups, and was just the best mama.   They’ve all been adopted, and now it’s Juniper’s turn. She is about 2 years old, and weighs about 40 lbs. From her foster dad - “Juniper is less and less skittish around people. She loves being petted and having her ears scratched. She also loves giving kisses and being ‘sweet talked’.” Juniper is undergoing treatment for heartworm. Do you have a place in your heart and home for this sweetheart? Please help us find her just the right home, so her new life can be so much better than how it started.

  • Sage is a stunning American Pitbull Terrier. She was found chained up in the woods left to die. Animal control saved her and her identical twin brother Cheeseburger, and they have been with us ever since. She gets along well with some dogs. She is looking for a terrier savvy owner that understands the breed. Sage is spayed and current on shots. From Sage’s foster dad - “Sage is a very smart girl. When I get her to do something I want her to do, by opening or closing her inside and outside dog doors — I can only use that trick once and she is on to it. She loves back rubs and neck scratches and is very loving.”

  • Cheeseburger is a stunning American Pitbull Terrier. He was found chained up in the woods left to die. Animal control saved him and his identical twin sister Sage, and they have been with us ever since. He has played with other dogs but appropriate introductions are an absolute must because he is very strong. He is looking for a terrier savvy owner that understands the breed. He is not a yard dog and prefers to sleep on the couch. From Cheeseburger’s foster dad - “Cheeseburger is a strong dog who loves to play. He loves belly rubs and will lay right down at the oddest times to get one. I never have to trick Cheeseburger, he does what you ask him to, like going into his kennel when his time in the yard is up. He will take all the love and attention you can give him.”
